Streitraum About

Concept

Since January, 2000 the Schaubühne has presented the monthly series »Streitraum«, inviting for public discussions leaders from around the world in cultural studies, the humanities and social sciences. Since 2004/05, Streitraum is curated and moderated by publicist Carolin Emcke.

The Streitraum is usually taking place once a month, on Sundays at 12pm.

Carolin Emcke (*1967, Mülheim an der Ruhr) studied philosophy, politics and history in London, Frankfurt am Main and at the Harvard University. From 1998 to 2006 she was a journalist at the Spiegel and a correspondent in crisis zones around the world. From 2007 to 2014 she has been an international reporter for ZEIT. Since 2014 she has her own column at the Süddeutsche Zeitung. In 2003/04 she was Visiting Lecturer for political theory at Yale University. Latest publications, among others »Stumme Gewalt – Nachdenken über die RAF« (2008), »Wie wir begehren« (2012), »Weil es sagbar ist. Über Zeugenschaft und Gerechtigkeit« (2013), »Gegen den Hass« (2016) and »Ja heißt ja und ...« (2019). In 2010 Carolin Emcke received the Otto Brenner prize for investigative journalism as well as the Deutscher Reporterpreis in the category »Best Report« and she was elected »Journalist of the Year«. In 2014 she received the Johann-Heinrich-Merck-Prize by the German Academy of Language and Literature for her complete works, in 2015 shre received the »Lessing-Preis des Freistaats Sachsen« and the »Preis der Lichtenberg Poetik-Dozentur« and the Friedenspreis des Deutschen Buchhandels (2016).
